3500 kJ Anvil ring for pile driving hammer rolled off the production line

2022-10-26

On October 25, 2022, an ultra-large Anvil ring forging with a diameter of 7.6 meters was successfully shipped from Iraeta. This is the sixth 100-ton heavy-duty replacement ring that Iraeta has successfully manufactured after providing the Anvil ring for the first independently developed 3,500 kJ hydraulic pile driving hammer in China in 2020.

Large marine hydraulic piling hammer is the key equipment for offshore wind power, oil and gas platform and other marine engineering construction. Due to the large difference in the diameter of the hammer core and the steel pile, it is necessary to install the steel pile with a "hat" - a anvil ring. The anvil ring has a small head and a large base, the upper part of which bears the impact of the hammer core, while the lower part transmits the impact energy to the steel pile, which eventually "nails" the steel pile weighing thousands of tons firmly to the sea bed, providing a safe and stable foundation for subsequent offshore operations.

As one of the important components of offshore hydraulic piling hammers, heavy duty anvil rings are difficult to manufacture and have a long lead time, and few domestic manufacturers have the production capacity. 2020, Iraeta cooperated with Beijing Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Research and successfully manufactured a 7.6m diameter 3500 kJ anvil ring for piling hammers using the integral rolling and near net forming process for the first time, which set a new record for the size and weight of similar components in China at that time.

Compared with the traditional free forging method, the oversized annular variable cross-section forgings manufactured by the integral rolling, near net forming process have very obvious advantages in terms of forging allowance, material property uniformity, production efficiency and material utilization. This method not only shortens the production cycle, realizes the timely delivery of products, increases the service life of forgings under service conditions, but also reduces the procurement cost of the owner or customer, realizing a multi-benefit.
